Learn Big Yellow Taxi Song on Guitar
Joni Mitchell, Canada's queen of folk/pop wrote this song and performed it in the 1970's. However, this song was
recently revived with renditions from popular artists such as Counting Crows.
Jamplay has kindly offered this video guitar lesson to you guys FREE and Mark Brennan is the guitar instructor
as he takes you through a step by step guitar lesson in learning the song. At the end of the lesson, there is also
a special performance by Mark and his wife.
This is the FULL version of the song. Nothing is held back in this guitar

Points to take note of when learning to play Joni Michell's Big Yellow
Taxi
1 - Big Yellow Taxi is a really fun song to play especially if you are new to the guitar. This song
can do wonders in helping you practice and learn the barre chords. Be sure to build
up your finger strength and endurance prior to learning this song.
2 - Alternate tuning - The song is played with an open D tuning. Alternatively, if you find that
this is difficult for you to get started, you might want to use a capo on the 2nd fret so that it reduces the
strain on your instrument.
3 - Practice with a metronome. The strumming patterns in this song are somewhat repeative. Once you
can play along and keep time to a metronome, the rest of the song is a cakewalk.
4 - As with learning new things, I highly suggest you break this songs up into chunks to learn. For
example, you should tackle the introduction first before moving on to the verse and so forth. Once you can play the
individual parts with relative ease, you can then combine the pieces that you had learn and form a full song. This
is a tried and proven way in which my students learn a song easily.
