The most important thing you must do when learning how to play guitar is practice! You’re learning new things by doing the work, here, this is playing guitar, simple. By saying that, i mean playing guitar, not pulling the strings with no reason at all. And when you’re practicing, there is one thing you should never do and that is you must never, ever do it in a rush, just take your time and the results will come.

The next important thing is you need to get organized while learning new stuff. You need to start at the beginning and start playing simple chords and stuff like that. When playing guitar, just remain as relaxed as possible, relieving the tension off. The tension in your body prevents you from playing correctly and this is wrong way.

Practice every day, every single day, if that is possible, if not, just try doing it in some order, just never quit for a longer period of time and then start again. This is not the way to learn how to play guitar, it does no good for your playing. So, get habitual at playing guitar and i can almost guarantee, you’ll learn fast.

The other important thing, when learning how to play guitar is, you need to play the music you like. Don’t start to play songs you don’t like, because that will only get yourself frustrated and consequently get the wrong results or no at all. As what i’m going to say next, may sound stupid for some, believe me, it is not. You need to write your goals down, like what do you want to achieve, how much time are you willing to invest into learning to play guitar and why you want it!

When playing guitar, always use a metronome. It can and will improve your timing and make your playing sound better for sure. When finding a problem, try first to overcome that problem, don’t rush to some other stuff, because it gets boring or start doing other things just because you don’t like the things you need to learn. When you become persistent and learn how to play guitar the right way, the results will come and you could soon realize you are playing better and better, and that’s probably the reason, why you even started to learn how to play guitar the right way.

In this free guitar scale tip we are going to look at a very powerful practice strategy. I call this strategy “incremental lifestyle changes”. Before we talk about it, let me ask you a simple question…

Is it always convenient for you to practice your guitar scales?

Anyone who says yes to that question is probably lying! Let’s face it. Sometimes our hectic and busy lives make it challenging to get in enough guitar scale practice time. This is especially true for guitarists who work a 9 to 5 job, and also have a family!

So what am I trying to say here?

The key point I’m trying to make is that mastering guitar scales will require that you make some lifestyle changes. You will need to change how you use your time. And if you want to gain a high level of guitar scale mastery, you may need to make SIGNIFICANT changes to your lifestyle. The true masters of scales have built their lives around their guitar practice time. They have also, in many cases, made large sacrifices in order to do this.

Some of the lifestyle changes that you might need to make can include:

- Reducing the amount of TV that you watch.
- Getting up earlier in the morning. (A fate worse than death for many people!).
- Eating a more healthy diet.
- Going out drinking and partying less often.
- Spending less time with negative thinking friends and other toxic people.

Obviously, some of these could represent a significant change to your daily routine. Which brings us back to the concept of incremental lifestyle changes. These are small changes made to your lifestyle to accommodate increases in guitar scale practice time. Let’s take a look at an example to explain this concept clearly…

Let’s say that you currently dedicate 30 minutes a day to guitar scale practice. You realize that to reach your musical goals you will probably need to devote at least 3 hours a day to scale practice. So what do you do? Do you give up because 3 hours seems too unattainable? Nope! You use incremental lifestyle changes. Here’s how it works…

Step 1: Choose a new scale practice length. For our example, let’s say that you will now practice guitar scales 45 minutes a day rather than just 30 minutes.

Step 2: Make any lifestyle changes that need to be made to accommodate the increase in scale practice time.

Step 3: Practice for the new practice length daily until it becomes habitual.

Step 4: Repeat the first three steps, with gradually increasing practice lengths, until you have reached your goal of three hours a day.

It’s important to realize that it may take you months to reach this goal. You will also probably be amazed at how many lifestyle changes were needed in order to reach this goal! And that’s fine. Ways To Build A Guitar Out Of A Cigar Box

You can build a guitar that works great from a simple cigar box. This isn’t the elaborate real stringed guitar that some people can make, but a simple rubber band guitar.

This is a great idea for just playing around or showing the kids, and they will absolutely love having a hand made cigar box guitar to play with.

If you like this, you can later decide to learn how to build an elaborate cigar box guitar. Here’s how you do it.

First you will cut a hole in the bottom of the cigar box. It doesn’t have to be very large, just three inches or so across. You can use a box cutter to do this, but be careful.

You will then poke four or five holes on both sides of the hole where you will insert the rubber bands. Make sure the holes are poked in a straight line.

You can trace a line with a pencil and a ruler if you want to be sure that the rubber bands will be exactly straight. You want to take five rubber bands, and cut them so they are one line instead of a circle.

The next thing you want to do to build a cigar box guitar is put one end of the rubber band through the hole. Tie a large knot so that the band won’t slip back through.

Then you will stretch the rubber band to it’s corresponding hole on the other side of the circle. You will put that end of the rubber band through the hole and tie another knot.

You can make the rubber band tighter or looser, depending on how you want the guitar to sound.

To build a guitar that sounds very different with each band, make the rubber bands all different as far as how tight they are. Then you will cut off the extra rubber band on the inside of the box.

Then you can glue or tape the box shut. With a little extra imagination, you can add a handle, and paint the guitar so it will be your very own.

How To Make A Cheap Guitar Sound Great

Most beginning guitar players start with a rather inexpensive instrument. They usually have a mass production clone of a Fender Stratocaster or a Gibson Les Paul. The most popular clones are made overseas by Gibson and Fender themselves through the Epiphone and Squier lines. These are built to the same specs as the American made models. They are decent instruments in their own right but they can be improved greatly with just a pickup replacement. As long as the neck is straight and the tuning pegs are fairly tight, this is often all you need to upgrade to a pro sound.

Iv’e modified several Mexican made Stratocasters and I’ll take you through the process. The first thing you want to decide on is what kind of sound you’re looking for. Replacement pickups are available with a lot of variety in sound output. I like to use Seymour Duncan pickups because they have proven to be of high quality and reliability. They also have a good selection and have a CD of sound samples you can listen to. Most dealers have the CD’s and you can also listen to the samples online. Choose your replacement pickups and you’re ready to upgrade.

You’ll need several things for the job. A good stable workbench or table, with plenty of room to lay your tools out, makes things much easier. Here’s a list of what you need: 1.screwdriver set, both flat head and philips 2.soldering iron 3.solder 4.new set of strings 5.wire cutters/strippers

The first thing you need to do is remove your guitar strings. I usually leave the low E-string on to keep a little tension on the neck. Next remove the pickguard cover. Make sure you save all the screws in a cup as they are small and get lost easily. After you remove the screws you should be able to lift up on it and slide it off under the E-string. You should now see your three pickups and the wiring thats attached to them.

The new pickups come with a wiring diagram that is color coded but take a good look at each pickup before you replace it in case something isn’t quite right with the color code. It’s important that you replace one pickup at a time so as not to mix up the bridge, middle and neck pickups.

Heat up your soldering iron. Remove the first pickup. I usually start with the neck pickup. Cut and strip the wires according to the instructions and solder the wires to the new ones. Repeat the process for the other two. Not too bad, huh?

When you replace the cover/pickguard, be careful not to overtighten the screws or they might get stripped. Now would be a good time to clean the guitar before you put the new strings on.

Replace and tune the strings and plug in. You’ll be pleased with the results. I have several of these upgraded strats for the price of one expensive one and more versatilty with different pickup sounds. You can do the same thing with an Epiphone Les Paul to produce a sound that rivals the Gibson for about a third of the price. Now you can spend more money on all the cool effects gadgets. The Girl With The Green Guitar

The high energy performances of rising country rock star, Candy Coburn, are starting to win her an ever increasing fan base. Sporting her trademark green guitar, a Mother’s Day gift from her husband, Candy literally explodes onto the stage in her live concerts. Her music has a unique style that Candy says was shaped by her life experiences and which seems to connect with her audience.

She has already released one CD titled, “Enjoy the Ride”, and her second CD is due out sometime this fall. She has been doing a lot of touring during which she has opened for many of country music’s biggest stars. In her most recent performance in Missouri’s bootheel region, she opened for Little Big Town. She certainly did a good job there of warming the crowd as she had them hooting and yelling for more.

Candy is a down to earth girl with a big heart, and as soon as her performance ended, she headed straight for a group of children in a special section high up in the arena. The children, many of them in wheelchairs, were given a thrill by having their pictures taken with the performer they had just finished cheering for on stage. She remained signing autographs and having her picture taken with fans until the main performance was ready to begin. Even when Little Big Town had finished their set, she was found in the lobby still mingling with her fans.

This is not unusual for this down-to-earth, unspoiled, but quickly rising, new singer. She can often be found doing charity shows in her home region, and relates easily and naturally with her growing number of avid fans. Do not be surprised if in the future the cry of “We want some Candy” is heard all over the world of country music.

Guitar Lesson: The Power Of Guitar Speed Goals

Do you ever get the feeling that you’re not progressing at your fastest possible rate? Do you ever feel overwhelmed with guitar lessons? How about the feeling that you’re not really 100% sure if you’re improving or not? If you do…you’re definitely not alone!

Learning guitar can be a bit overwhelming at times. There are literally enough things to learn to keep anyone busy for MANY lifetimes. This can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s a blessing because you’ll never run out new and exciting things to learn. It can also seem like a curse because you’ll never get to the bottom of your “to do” list! So how do you keep motivated and constantly have the feeling of progress? That’s where speed goals come in…

I’ve been using speed goals for about the last 15 years. They are one of the most powerful weapons in my guitar practice arsenal. Let’s take a look now at what they are, and what benefits you’ll gain by setting speed goals.

***What Are Speed Goals?****

A speed goal is a goal that you set to reach a particular metronome setting. For example, you might say that your speed goal for a particular sweep picking exercise is sixteenth notes at 160bpm (beats-per-minute). You would practice that exercise daily until the target speed has been reached.

An effective speed goal has these qualities…

1. No Deadline. Unlike traditional goal setting, there are no deadlines with speed goals. This is because you must allow your technique to develop in a relaxed and natural way. If you set a deadline, you may be tempted to increase your metronome speeds at too fast a rate in order to meet the deadline. Result? You’ll basically program tension into your muscles and most likely get frustrated.

2. Challenging. Your speed goal must be challenging. It should be fast enough to make you grow as a player. For example, if you can currently play an exercise at 120bpm then something like 144bpm would make a good goal. Once you reach 144bpm, then you might set another speed goal of around 160bpm. See how this works?

3. Realistic. Don’t set your speed goal too high. If you can currently only play an exercise at 120bpm, then 240bpm would probably be too high. I generally set speed goals that I think I can achieve within a month or two.

***Benefits of Speed Goals***

A few benefits of setting speed goals include…

1. They give you something to work towards. This helps you to stay motivated and enthusiastic about your guitar practice.

2. They give you a feeling of progress. You’ll feel great each time you reach a speed goal. These small wins help you feel like you are progressing steadily towards the larger goals that you have set for your guitar playing.

3. They tell you when you can STOP practicing an exercise. Once you’ve achieved your goal you can then move onto something else. The speed goal stops you from mindlessly practicing an exercise that you have already mastered.

4. They give you measurable results. If your speeds are increasing then you have quantitative proof that you are improving. You KNOW for sure that you are getting better. This helps you become more confident about your guitar playing.

I encourage you to set a few speed goals now. If you set them consistently, I think you’ll be amazed at how fast you’ll progress.

Eric Clapton: Guitar Legend

Eric Clapton is an acclaimed musical artist, nicknamed “Slowhand” and known for his superb guitar playing ability. Originally from Ripley, Surrey, England, Clapton was born on March 30, 1945. His musical genres include blues, rock, psychedelic rock, and blues rock. Clapton is regarded by many as on e of the greatest and most influential guitarists. Aside from winning Grammy Awards, Eric Clapton has three inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Clapton started off by joining the rock and roll band The Yardbirds in 1963, but left in 1965 as the band had more of a pop orientation than he would have liked, remaining dedicated to the blues. Eric then joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, who would help Clapton establish himself as one of the worlds best blues guitarists. Clapton left however quickly left Bluesbreakers as well, forming the band Cream in 1966. During his time with Cream was when he began to develop as a singer and songwriter along with is already notable guitar skills. Cream would break up two years later however in 1968.

Eric Clapton either played with and/or started a number of other successful groups before taking a career break because of personal issues in the 1970’s and has sporadically released solo albums since then. Some of his solo albums include: There’s One in Every Crowd, Another Ticket, Reptile, Sessions for Robert J, and Back Home.
