The Ultimate Finger
Tapping System Review - Eric Slone
Tapping is a popular technique for lead guitarists. It helps you
to look like a better play than you are, and in some cases it can help you to expand your playing
style.
The ratio of looking better to playing better is extremely slim, as more guitarists use tapping to look
better than to play better. A product that markets itself as helping you to do the former over the latter isn’t
always the best thing.
The Ultimate Finger Tapping System does this.
But don’t write it off yet. In our The Ultimate Finger Tapping System review, we will discuss whether or
not emphasizing on the wrong aspect was just a mistake.
First off, let’s talk about what you get; forty-three video lessons of varying length (most are
very short), an eBook, about a dozen play along tracks, free updates, jam tracks (which
are the same exact thing as play along tracks but for some reason are marketed as different) and teacher support.
There is also an online tuner and metronome, but they are just icing on the cake of your product.
Let’s talk about the lessons. They aren’t necessarilbad, just very bad quality. When you are
making a product, you should realize that buyers will look at the quality of what they are buying over everything
else. These videos look as if they were shot with a cheap webcam in Mr. Sloan’s bedroom. They probably
were.
The sound quality because of the poor video quality is
awful. This means that you will have a tough time discerning the notes. Not a great way to make a lesson
program, as the audio part of music is rather important, seeing as music is an auditory art.
Another problem is that Mr. Slone himself doesn’t seem to be the most developed of guitarists. In order to
teach, you should have a mastery of the techniques you are teaching. He doesn’t. This opens the
question of how can you teach what you don’t properly know. Think this over carefully before making any
decisions.
Marketing the play along tracks and the jam tracks as two separate things in order to bulk out the content
is a bit of a shady tactic, as they are literally the exact same thing.
Yet again the entire site comes off as one gigantic add begging you to purchase the course, which leaves
very little room for actual information. The techniques described as course lessons are touched on but are taught
nowhere near enough to allow any sort of mastery. For all of the time spent jazzing out the site and making it look
flashier, time could have been spent writing higher quality lessons.
So what is the overall conclusion of our The Ultimate Finger Tapping System review? Pass. It is nowhere near ultimate, and doesn’t give you
nearly enough tools to begin to expand upon the technique.
It basically covers linear tapping licks and from there moves on to more linear tapping
licks. No intervallic relationships are explain as pertaining to tapping, so you don’t really learn what you
are doing or why, just how to.
